ABIA: LP CLARIFIES SUPREME COURT RULING ON ABURE

Stemming from the Supreme Court judgement on the leadership crisis of the Labour Party, the Abia State Chairman of the party, Honourable Emma Otti has stated the position of the Abia State chapter of the party.

Speaking in an interview on Spin 95.3 FM Umuahia on Friday on Hard Talk, Otti said the party in Abia aligns with the Senator Nenadi Usman led Caretaker Committee of the party.

Honourable Otti, who appeared alongside Chief Okey Ijioma (Vice Chairman, Abia North) accused Julius Abure of tampering with the party’s constitution severally to suit his personal interest.

He made allusion to the Certified True Copy of the judgement, saying the Supreme Court faulted the appellate and the High Court for delivering judgement on the matter which according to him by way of interpretation nullified the chairmanship of Julius Abure.

Recall that the Supreme Court had on Friday, April 4, 2025 delivered judgement saying that the court lacked jurisdiction to entertain party leadership issue as it is “internal party affaires.”

On that premise, Governor Alex Otti of Abia State and the 2023 Presidential Candidate of the party, Peter Obi convened a National Executive Council NEC meeting in Abuja on Wednesday 9th April 2025.

Governor Otti led the Nenadi Usman led Caretaker Committee to the Headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission for recognition.

He dismissed the announcement made by the National Vice Chairman (South), Lamidi Apapa of assuming the position of national Chairman as “a joke” which should be ignored.

While he admitted that he attended the 2024 Awka Congress of the Laboir Party (LP), which reproduced Abure, he was quick to add that he was there to observe the drama Julius Abure enacted.

He urged the LP members and loyalists to keep faith with the party as better days are ahead.

Contributing, the state Vice Chairman (Abia North), Chief Okey Ijioma corroborated the explanation of Hon. Emma Otti on the leadership rancore that has troubled the party.

He said the LP in Abia recognizes the 2019 Constitution of the party which did not permit Abure to remain in office.
