ABIA: GOVT TO COMMENCE FRESH TEACHERS RECRUITMENT, WARNS AGAINST COLLECTION OF ILLEGAL FEES

The Abia State government has announced the commencement of a second phase of recruitment teachers into the Abia State Civil Service.

This was conveyed to newsmen in Umuahia by the Commissioner for information, Prince Okey Kanu while giving update on the outcome of this week’s state executive council meeting, chaired by Governor Alex Otti.

Prince Kanu said the approval was given by Governor Otti in order to accommodate those who missed the first phase. He explained that the goal is to build a reliable database of qualified teachers for future deployments. Special focus will be placed on recruiting teachers in technical and vocational subjects where there are gaps.

The Commissioner said over 2,200 public school teachers will undergo training by Education Reformation and Innovation Team (ERIT) across three centres in Aba, Umuahia, and Ohafia between April 10 and 19 to improve teaching quality and learning outcomes.

He warned Principals and school heads against illegal collection of fees in primary and junior secondary schools adding that the government has made provisions for imprest funds to cover school running costs.

He warned that any defaulter would face severe sanctions.
